Invest in a good umbrella!

That sounds like the most obvious statement in the world when it comes to rain right?! But planning ahead and having your PLAN B in place means you won’t be disappointed on the day if the heavens do open! A clear dome umbrella will be a Godsend if you have a damp day. Not only are they simple and classy but your amazing bridal hair and make up won’t be obscured by a brolly trying to steal the show. Nor will it cast shadows on your beautiful face, meaning your photos will come out even better! If you want to carry on with an outdoor wedding, maybe also invest in umbrellas for your guests or a clear tent or marquee! The light can still get in but it will definitely be a drier option!

Give it some wellie!

Hands up? Who has a pair of wellies? Sure, we’re convinced you probably ALL do but did you ever dream of teaming said wellies with your wedding dress? Thought not. Luckily, we’re here to tell you and show you just how much we LOVE wellies and wedding dresses and what cute pictures they make! Trust us, when your special day comes round and there’s rain in the forecast, we can guarantee you will be jumping for joy from puddle to puddle with your new husband or wife- just pack the wellies so your dress doesn’t get too mud splattered for the evening reception!!!

Wedding day wellies really are all the rage on a wet day!

Dramatic, cinematic photos to cherish!

A creative flash on a dark and wet day can create some amazingly dramatic photos with really cinema style. The lighting is softer when it rains and one of our experienced photographers will be able to make you pop in the photos, meaning you’ll look like the leading lady in your very own Hollywood movie! If you wait until night fall, our clever photographers can use off-camera flash to capture some truly amazing images. What’s not to love about that!

Have an indoor back-up plan

Discuss with your wedding photographer ahead of your big day to find a few back up locations - indoor or under cover for some great indoor and outdoor photo opportunities! Everyone dreams of outside shots and you can definitely achieve them on a wet day (*remember, it very rarely rains ALL day, there will always be breaks!)

While you’re scouting out locations, make sure to pick and locate some stunning indoor shots too.

Cajsa and Douglas (below) got married on a wet day at Dalhousie castle. Not being able to get outside may have been a blessing in disguise with their gorgeous indoor breathtaking shots! Utilise your venue and work magic with the indoor photo locations.

Natural intimacy

We spoke to many of our Pink Daisy photographers when writing this blog post and one thing that came up again and again was the natural intimacy that occurs between a couple when sharing an umbrella on a rainy day (cute or what)! Remember the photos of Prince Harry and Meghan in the torrential rain in London last year? THAT is what we’re talking about! This is the kind of unplanned and unposed intimacy that makes a photograph utterly stunning and so full of natural emotion and love. Ooh, we have goose pimples just thinking about it!

Don’t be afraid of a few raindrops!

Even if it does start to sprinkle down, it doesn’t mean you can’s still get some great outdoor shots. If you can be a bit flexible with the timing of your photos you can pop out while there is a break in the clouds, and as long as it is not pouring down, a good photographer can still make the photos look as if it is a nice day.

Most importantly enjoy your day!

We promise a little rain is nothing to stress about. You just won’t care on the day of your wedding if it rains, even if you refresh that weather forecast on your mobile phone 100 plus times a day on the run up to the celebrations! We’ve shot so many rainy weddings and felt nothing but joy and happiness from our brides and grooms! Nothing can stop the pure delight of the day and in all honesty, we just love to take photographs with soft and glistening rain drops! Trust us to get the shots that you will cherish forever… just bring your wellington boots and we will be ready to rock!

If 2020 was the year you planned your big dream wedding, it may have to look a little different in reality to how you originally saw it in your head. Positive thoughts only!

We’ve compiled our list of why smaller weddings can be petite and sweet!

  • The cost of your wedding can be cheaper overall and money saved can be spent on an amazing honeymoon when restrictions lift or put into a beautiful home or the future. Not to be sniffed at!

  • Smaller weddings mean fewer people which means you can concentrate and spend beautiful quality time with the loved ones and nearest and dearest that are there to share your day!

  • You can create an intimate and cozy atmosphere and go BIG on those flowers, dress or wedding decorations

  • Quality doesn’t have to mean quantity. With SO much love in the room you will feel like you are surrounded with joy (*cheesy but true)!

  • You can have another party or celebration after your micro wedding which means two dresses… what’s not to love about that!?

  • Modern technology means you can live stream your wedding all over the world if you wanted to! You can literally go global!

All about the atmosphere

One thing you don’t have to scale back on with a smaller wedding is the atmosphere and general feel of the day. Yes, you may have to go small on the guest list but that doesn’t mean you can’t go big, HUGE even on the flowers, the cake, the dress and the beautiful  heartfelt touches like your wedding stationery and personalised touches. Cutting back in no way means you have to cut back on all those little details you dreamed you would have in your wedding. If anything, a smaller guest list may free up more funds to have that incredible bridal bouquet you’ve been scoping out on Pinterest or the stunning designer wedding dress of your dreams! Small doesn’t mean basic, so go big on all the things you’ve always held in your heart for your special day! The photos will be with you forever so create the day and the gorgeous atmosphere you always wanted. Check out these photos from our talented Pink Daisy Photographers for inspiration on smaller weddings!

Pick the right wedding venue

If you’re not sure where to start with picking a smaller wedding venue, a quick search online will come up with a whole host of recommendations for Covid secure wedding venues for your wedding and reception.

Town Hall weddings are popular with our Pink Daisy Brides and the great news is that the architecture and stunning staircases of the many Town Halls on offer means you will get beautiful and dramatic wedding photos, with an incredible backdrop and plenty of different locations for photography opportunities. We just love the cascading grand staircases of so many town halls and can’t get enough of a staircase bridal shot…

When it comes to the reception afterwards, your list of 15 VIPS are still permitted to enjoy a sit down meal together and we are loving the idea of intimate trestle tables, decorated up with stunning floral displays, candles and beaming newlywed faces!

If you wanted to keep it even more intimate and private, why not transform your home or garden into a wedding wonderland, complete with hundreds of fairy lights and a champagne afternoon tea? The great thing about a smaller wedding is that all rules go out of the window. This is your day to design however you want, so think outside the box and be as creative as you like!

The VIP list

We get it, we really do. Imagining a guest list of nearer 100 people and having to cull it down to 15 (taking off the officiant, photographer and couple you’re actually looking at 13) feels cut throat and sad beyond words but sit down together and really discuss who the most important people are. Who is on your team? Who are the VIPS that are your ride or die that you couldn’t live without? With larger families, blended families and big friendship groups this may feel impossible but take some time to consider the part they play in your lives. How much do you speak to  this person day to day? Could you imagine your day without them? Remember, these are unprecedented times and people will be understanding if they don’t get an invite.

Get technical!

Remember the months we spent in lockdown doing zoom quizzes and spending hours on house party and google hangouts? Well, it doesn’t have to end there. Embrace the ‘new normal’ and live stream your wedding to all your friends and family who couldn’t be there.

This will certainly be memorable and talked about for years to come! Get your virtual congregation and guests to don hats and wedding attire and pop those corks when you say ‘I DO!’ It will certainly be a wedding to go down in the history books.

Accentuate the positive

Yes, it may not be what you wanted but making the best of the situation you have and reframing your attitude will mean that your day is amazing no matter what. Your guests will look to you and take their cue from you and every single bride we have spoken to who had to change their day for whatever reason has had an unforgettable and beautiful day and actually, wouldn’t have changed a thing! You can always have a sequel wedding or second party at a later date so see it as double the celebrations. If you’re thrilled to just be having a smaller bash with your closest team members then relish the amount of time you get to spend as a small group AND maximum time with your new husband or wife, plus no having to make small talk with 100+ people including your Dad’s cousin’s next door neighbour’s brother!

Tiers of Joy for Weddings?

We write this blog with heavy hearts and tired eyes- hasn’t it been such a crazy year? We’re sure everyone feels utterly jaded and exhausted from such a mad time in our lives- we all certainly do and we are sending SO much love to all of the couples out there who have had to put their dream day on hold, or change plans in the face of such unimaginable times.

We will all emerge next week on the 2nd December blinking into the sun and facing further restrictions in our new tiers, so we give the lowdown on what this all means for you and your wedding.

What does all of this mean for weddings?

Firstly, fear not- it is not ALL bad news, we promise you that!

Couples will be able to get married once again as the country returns to a tiered approach… Hallelujah to that!

A glimmer of hope on the horizon

Those with weddings booked in December can breathe a massive sigh of relief, as weddings can take place again with some of the new rules introduced earlier in the year.

Tier 1 and 2

Breathe a sigh of relief because weddings and wedding receptions  in Tier 1 and Tier 2 can now take place from December 2nd as National Lockdown comes to an end and localised tiers are put in place.

The rules

  • No more than 15 people can attend

  • Subject to social distancing and mask wearing

  • The number 15 is the maximum number for all attendees at the wedding including the couple and the guests

  • Anyone working or any supplier is NOT included as part of the legal limit!

  • Small sit down receptions are allowed

  • Reception venues must be table service only

  • Last orders at 10pm closed at 11pm

Tier 3

Don’t fret just yet if your area has gone into Tier 3. The official wedding or civil partnership can take place but no receptions will be allowed.

 According to official guidance:

At present it is strongly advised that marriage ceremonies, civil partnerships or alternative wedding ceremonies should only go ahead where they can be done in a Covid-19  secure environment.

“It is also advised that ceremonies are kept as short as possible.”

Such gatherings cannot by law take place in private dwellings unless they are urgent circumstances

Can guests travel to our wedding if they are in a different tier?

A question we have seen come up during these hard times is whether guests can travel between tiers. According to official advise, people can travel between tiers although it is not ‘advised’ and a matter of personal judgement. According to the latest up to date advise on the Government UK website on 23rd November 2020.

“Guests are permitted to attend wedding or civil partnership with no more than 15 people present.”
